Breeds Information
French Bulldogs & American Bulldogs
Raised With Purpose
At Trained Bullies, we celebrate two remarkable Bulldog breeds: the charming, compact French Bulldog and the strong, loyal American Bulldog. Each breed carries its own history, personality, and purpose — and both are loved for their devotion to family.
Born from the English Bulldog
The French Bulldog's story begins not in France, but in England. Its ancestor, the Old English Bulldog, was a powerful working dog. Over time, breeders began developing smaller, gentler Bulldogs that became affectionate companion dogs.
These compact dogs became especially popular with lace workers in Nottingham, who kept them as loyal lap companions during long days at work.
Crossing the Channel to Paris
When many English lace-makers moved to France, they brought their small Bulldogs with them. In France, these dogs were refined into a charming, compact companion with a distinct look and personality.
The breed became known as the Bouledogue Français, admired for its bat ears, expressive face, affectionate nature, and playful character.
The Dog of Artists & Society
By the late 1800s, French Bulldogs had become a symbol of Parisian style and charm. They were loved by artists, writers, society families, and everyday dog lovers.
Their playful personality, compact size, and affectionate temperament made them ideal companions for homes, apartments, and families who wanted a loyal little dog with a big personality.
The Frenchie Comes to the USA
Wealthy Americans traveling through France fell in love with the French Bulldog and began bringing them back to the United States. Their popularity grew quickly among American dog lovers.
American enthusiasts helped define the breed’s signature upright bat ear, giving the French Bulldog one of the most recognizable looks in the dog world.
A Breed Loved Worldwide
The French Bulldog gained formal recognition and continued spreading across the world. Its compact size, smooth coat, expressive features, and affectionate nature helped make it one of the most beloved companion breeds.
Today, French Bulldogs are known for being loyal, funny, loving, and full of personality — a perfect match for many modern families.
Frenchies Raised With Care
At Trained Bullies, we value French Bulldogs for their charm, affectionate nature, and unforgettable personalities. We focus on raising puppies that are social, confident, loving, and ready to become cherished family companions.
Every French Bulldog puppy we place is treated with care, patience, and attention from the beginning.
The American Bulldog: Strength, Loyalty & Family Protection
The American Bulldog is a powerful, athletic, and deeply loyal breed known for its courage, confidence, and devotion to family. At Trained Bullies, we value the American Bulldog for its balanced nature — strong enough to protect, gentle enough to love, and intelligent enough to become a trusted lifelong companion.
American Working Roots
The American Bulldog descends from working Bulldogs brought to America by early settlers. These dogs were valued on farms and homesteads for their strength, bravery, loyalty, and ability to assist with guarding property, handling livestock, and protecting families.
Strong & Athletic Build
American Bulldogs are muscular, sturdy, and naturally athletic. They are larger and more powerful than French Bulldogs, with a confident stance, broad head, strong chest, and active body built for movement, endurance, and strength.
Loyal Family Companion
Despite their powerful appearance, American Bulldogs are affectionate and people-focused. They bond closely with their families and are known for being loving, protective, playful, and deeply devoted to the people they trust.
Natural Guardian Instinct
American Bulldogs are naturally alert and protective. With proper training and socialization, they can become confident guardians who are watchful without being unnecessarily aggressive. Their loyalty makes them excellent family protectors.
Intelligent & Trainable
This breed is smart, responsive, and eager to work with confident leadership. American Bulldogs do best with structure, consistency, early training, and owners who understand the importance of guidance, patience, and positive reinforcement.
Best Home Environment
American Bulldogs thrive in homes where they have space, activity, attention, and a clear routine. They enjoy being part of daily family life and do best with owners who can provide exercise, socialization, and companionship.
What Makes the American Bulldog Special?
The American Bulldog is admired for its balance of power and affection. It is a breed with a strong body, brave heart, and loyal spirit. When raised responsibly, socialized early, and placed with the right family, the American Bulldog becomes more than a pet — it becomes a devoted protector, playful friend, and trusted member of the home.
